About the Department

Arabic is one among the six languages adopted by UNO as its official languages. It is one of the oldest living languages in the world with rich literary heritage spread over more than fifteen centuries. Since the inception of the college in 1988, Arabic has been one of the courses taught here. A good number of students choose the subject due to its vast scope for attaining occupational efficiency besides some students being motivated due to its religious significance. It is also preferred to get an opportunity to work in Arab countries without any communication problem as the Arab world presents huge job opportunities for educated youth of the sub-continent. The department makes every effort to equip the students effectively in four language skills- Listening/Understanding, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Besides the literary taste and creative writing skill is developed by means of thorough exercises on various pieces of prose and poetry as prescribed in the syllabus. The department organizes and takes active part in co-curricular and extra- curricular activities viz.seminars, conferences, workshops, sports competitions, social service activities etc. organized in the college. The official publication of the college ‘Rambi’aar’ has an Arabic Section as well in which the students besides teachers bring out their creative write ups. The Department has one sanctioned post for permanent faculty and if the need arises for more due to increased number of students, the same is fulfilled by means of ‘Academic Arrangement’ faculty engaged by the administrative department.
