The college was established in the year 1988 and the roll of students was very less and the interest of the students towards sports was even lesser in number. In October 2000 the roll was near about 500, and with the passage of time the roll of students increased and the department started functioning by organizing many sports events. In the year 2006 when the college shifted to its present location, the roll of the students increased up to 2500 and the department received sufficient participation for Inter-college competitions organized by university of Kashmir Srinagar. In the same year the sports facilities were provided like play ground and other sports related equipment.

The Department organized various activities in different events and produced many outstanding sports personalities who had brought laurels to the college at State, Inter-University and National level competitions. The Department strives to inculcate appropriate values and qualities required to develop sports persons. Every year the Department hosts inter-college competitions and intra-college competitions in Road Race, Cycle Race, Volley ball, Foot ball, Cricket etc. Besides these events the Department also conducts indoor competitions like carom, chess, badminton etc.
