Cleanliness and sanitation is integral part of Gandhian way of life. Mahatma Gandhi says “Sanitation is more important than Independence”. In this backdrop and to comply with Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir initiatives regarding celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti, NSS Unit of Government Degree College Shopian organized an event of campus cleaning programme so as to create a sense of cleanliness among students. Initially NSS Volunteers gathered in “Heemal Park” where worthy Principal Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafiq briefed volunteers about their responsibilities as NSS Volunteers and urged them to work selflessly and sincerely. Dr. Umer Farooq, Former NSS Officer also advised volunteers to work for the betterment of community as community looks towards us in resolution of so many problems. This was followed by the cleanliness drive.
It started from “Heemal Park” and volunteers collected the scattered polythene and bottles thrown in open and put them in dustbins. Volunteers counseled students and motivated them to help in keeping the campus neat and clean. Volunteers team was guided by Dr. Shugufta Majeed and Prof. Mohd Ishaq. The volunteers visited girls toilet and checked the sanitation status. Girl’s common room was also cleaned. Principal appreciated and thanked all the concerned particularly NSS Volunteers who made event a great success.
